If you’re just setting up a business in Newark, there are many things you need to consider, from finding a good Newark office space rental to hiring employees you can trust.  As any entrepreneur will tell you, striking out on your own is scary, but it’s also immensely satisfying.

You get to set your own priorities, and your business will be run in the way you see fit.  For people who are just chomping at the bit to implement their own ideas, entrepreneurship is a great option.  Still, there are a few things you should be careful about when you’re setting up a business.

1. Do you have enough savings?

The worst mistake you can make is setting up a business without enough funds to tide you over for as long as necessary.  Ideally, you’ll have enough funds to keep you going until you break even, which could happen in two months or could take as long as a year, depending on the product or service you’re selling.  Be realistic about how long it’s going to take you to get off the ground.  Do your research.  Speak to other entrepreneurs who are doing something similar.  And make sure you have enough funds to keep going for longer than you anticipate.

2. How big a place do you need?

If your business depends a lot on clients coming and going to the office, you’ll want to be located in a nice area.  You’ll need impressive interiors and exteriors.  You may not need a lot of space, but the space you have should make a good impression.  On the other hand, if your business is the kind which requires a lot of employees, then you’ll need to have a lot of office space so that each employee gets a sufficient amount.  At the same time, if you don’t have clients coming and going, you can compromise on the appearance of your office space.

3. Hiring employees  you can work with.

Often, people are tempted to involve their friends in their new ventures.  This can be a blessing or a curse, depending on the friend.  You may have great friendships with people, but this doesn’t necessarily mean you can work with them.  If you require a quiet workplace, it’s not a good idea to hire someone chatty.  But if  you need someone who can make a good impression on customers, then don’t hire quiet employees who are only good with computer work.  The process of hiring new employees can get complicated, but if you make an effort to fit the person to the job, then you’re more likely to be successful.
